1964년 샌안토니오에서 태어나 텍사스대학에서 영문학과 역사를 전공했다. 세계적으로 큰 인기를 모은 『트레스 나바르(Tres Navarre)』 시리즈를 썼으며, 미스터리 장르 최고의 상 세 개를 휩쓸었다. 『트레스 나바르』를 쓰는 동안 아들의 부탁으로 『퍼시 잭슨과 올림포스의 신(Percy Jackson and The Olmpians)』을 썼다. ‘퍼시 잭슨’ 시리즈는 20세기 폭스사에서 영화로 제작했다. 15년간 샌프란시스코 만과 텍사스에서 6~8학년 사이의 학생들에게 영어를 가르쳤고 학교에서 배우는 정도의 역사 지식과 그리스 로마신화에 대한 전문지식을 얻게 되었다 텍사스 샌안토니오에서 아내와 두 아들과 함께 살고 있다.
