Dava Sobel
전직 [뉴욕 타임즈New york Times] 과학부 기자로 현재 뉴욕 주 이스트햄프턴에서살고 있다. 그는[디스커버Discover], [라이프Life], [뉴요커 Newyorker], [하버드Harvard], [오드본Audubon] 등 유명 잡지에 현재 진행중인 과학 연구와 과학의 역사에 관한 글을 기고해 왔다.

대표작인 『경도 이야기Longitude』는 전세계적인 베스트셀러로 24개국에서 번역 출간되었다. 뿐만 아니라 미국 예술 문학 아카데미에서 수여하는 'Harold D. Vursell Memorial Award', 영국의 'Book of The Year', 프랑스의 'Le Prix du Faubert Coton', 이탈리아의 'll Premio Mare Circeo' 상을 수상했다. 또한『경도』를 통해 소벨은 미국 지리학회 회원 자격을 얻는 영광을 누리기도 했다. 그 후 발표한 『갈릴레오의 딸Galileo's Daughter』을 통해서는 역사의 뒤안길에 남은 인물들에 대한 새로운 기록들을 뛰어난 문장과 성실한 자료 조사를 통해 계속적으로 보여줌으로써 전세계 출판계에 깊은 인상을 주었다. 이 책 역시 전 세계 독자들의 이목을 집중시키며 ‘크리스토퍼 도서상’을 수상하고 미국 도서관협회 ‘올해의 책’에 선정되었다. 2011년에 『코페르니쿠스의 연구실』을 발표하며 16~18세기 과학혁명 3부작을 완성했다. 최근에는 시카고 대학과 버지니아 대학에서 과학 글쓰기 강의를 하며 과학 대중화를 위한 다양한 활동을 펼치고 있다.
