우리 삶의 틈새에 자리한 소외된 주제들에 관심이 많은 저널리스트이자 논픽션 작가. 1994년 미국 시사주간지 [더 네이션]에서 기자 생활을 시작했고, [가디언][뉴욕 타임스][파이낸셜 타임스][인디펜던트] 등 다수의 매체에 글을 기고해왔다. 사담 후세인을 수차례 만나 인터뷰했고, 코소보 내전을 취재하기 위해 전선에 뛰어들었다. 옥스퍼드 대학에서 현대언어학 학사 학위를, 펜실베이니아 대학에서 국제정치학 석사 학위를 받았다. 저서로는 그를 세상에 알린 대표작 『똥에 대해 이야기해봅시다, 진지하게』를 비롯해 난민 문제를 다룬 『A Life Removed』, 선박과 해운업계를 들여다본 『Ninety Percent of Everything』, 혈액을 둘러싼 문화와 의료 산업을 조명한 『Nine Pints』 등이 있다.

『똥에 대해 이야기해봅시다, 진지하게』는 세계보건기구WHO가 선정한 필독서 및 [이코노미스트] ‘올해의 책’에 이름을 올렸고 [뉴욕 타임스]로부터는 “21세기 최고의 논픽션 중 하나”라는 호평을 받았다. 깊이와 위트, 거침없는 도전 정신을 한꺼번에 녹여내는 로즈 조지 특유의 필력은 저명한 논픽션 작가 메리 로치가 “가장 잊지 못할 책”이라고 격찬할 만큼 작품의 참신함에 기여했다는 평가를 받기도 했다. 한편 이 책의 내용을 바탕으로 한 테드TED 강연은 ‘미처 생각해보지 못한 중요한 이야기’라는 평과 함께 분변과 위생에 대한 대중의 관심을 한층 끌어올리는 계기가 되었다. 그는 현재 영국 요크셔에 거주하고 있다. rosegeorge.com
