Robin Wall Kimmerer
엄마, 식물생태학자, 작가이자 뉴욕주립대학교 환경생물학과의 저명 강의교수이며 시티즌 포타와토미 네이션의 성원이다. 아메리카 원주민인 포타와토미족 출신으로 자신을 키운 것은 ‘딸기’라고 말한다. 지은이는 미국 역사에서 지워진 인디언 부족의 전통과 토착적 지식을 되살려내 과학과 어떻게 연결될 수 있는지, 인간과 대지의 조각나고 부서진 관계를 회복할 수 있는 새로운 지식은 어떤 것인지를 모색한다. 뉴욕주립대학교에서 식물학을 공부했으며, 위스콘신 대학교에서 식물생태학으로 박사학위를 받았다. 첫 책 『이끼를 모으다Gathering Moss』로 빼어난 자연문학에 주는 존 버로스 메달을 수상했다. 「오라이언」, 「홀 터레인」을 비롯한 여러 학술지에 글을 발표했다. 뉴욕 시러큐스에 살고 있으며, 원주민·환경연구소를 창립하여 소장을 맡고 있다.
