퍼트남(Hilary Putnam, 1926~ )은 1965년 이래로 하버드대학교 철학과 교수로 재직했으며, 현재는 하버드대학교의 명예교수다. 경험주의의 극복이라는 과제로 특징지어지는 20세기 후반의 후기 분석철학적 흐름을 이끌었던 주도적 철학자의 한 사람이다. 주요 저서로 Mathematics, Matter and Method (1975), Mind, Language and Reality (1975), Reason, Truth, and History (『이성·진리·역사』, 1981), Realism and Reason (1983), The Many Faces of Realism (1987), Representation and Reality (『표상과 실재』, 1988), Realism with a Human Face (1990), Renewing Philosophy (『과학주의 철학을 넘어서』, 1992), Words and Life (1994), Pragmatism: An Open Question (1994), The Threefold Code: Mind, Body and World (1999), Ethics without Ontology (『존재론 없는 윤리학』, 2004) 등이 있다.
