스웨덴 웁살라 대학교 정치학과 교수이다. 미래연구소(IFS)의 CEO(2003~2009), 스톡홀름 대학교와 스웨덴 사회조사연구소(SOFI) 교수를 역임했고, 스웨덴 사민당 지도자이며 총리를 역임한 올로프 팔메(Olof Palme)의 아들로, 현재 세계에서 가장 주목받는 복지학자 중 한 명이다. 주요 논문으로 “The Nordic model and the modernisation of social protection in Europe”(1999/2000), “Pension Rights in Welfare Capitalism.
