성경과 윤리의 관계, 로마 가톨릭의 도덕 신학, 미국 철학과 신학 분야의 작품으로 유명한 기독교 윤리학자이다. Gonzaga University(B. A.)와 the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley(M. Div., S. T. L.)와 the Divinity School of the University of Chicago(M. A., Ph. D.)를 졸업했다. Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley(1979-1992)와 Santa Clara University의 the Bannan Center for Jesuit Education(1998-2004)에서 가르쳤다.
