신약성경에 대한 사회과학적 해석, 고대 그리스-로마 시대의 일차 문헌 및 외경 연구에서 탁월한 실력을 인정받고 있는 유명 학자다. 프린스턴 대학교(B.A.), 프린스턴 신학교(M.Div.)를 거쳐 에모리 대학교에서 박사학위(Ph.D.)를 받았으며 현재는 미국 애슐랜드 신학교의 신약학 및 그리스어 교수로 재직하고 있다. 『신약개론』(CLC), The Hope of Glory: Honor Discourse and New Testament Interpretation, Introducing the Apocrypha: Message, Context, and Significance, Seeing Things John’s Way: The Rhetoric of the Book of Revelation, The Jewish Teachers of Jesus, James, and Jude: What Earliest Christianity Learned from the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, Day of Atonement: A Novel of the Maccabean Revolt 등 스물다섯 권이 넘는 저서를 집필했다.
