한국외국어대학교 미네르바 교양 대학 조교수를 거쳐 현재 전북대학교 신문방송학과 부교수다. 연세대학교에서 사회학과 영상커뮤니케이션을 공부했고, 펜실베이니아주립대에서 언론학(Mass Communications)으로 박사학위를 취득했다. 한국언론정보학회 연구이사, 사이버커뮤니케이션학회 편집이사 및 총무이사, 한국언론학회 총무이사 등을 역임했다. 저서로 『텔레비전 연구』(2017, 공역) 등이 있고, 논문으로 「But not all social media are the same: Analyzing organizations’ social media usage patterns」(2016), 「Why read online news? The structural relationships among motivations, behaviors, and consumption in South Korea」 (2013) 등이 있다.
