코넬대학교 과학기술학과 교수이며, 연구주제는 실험실, 형사법정, 그 외 제도적 환경에서의 실천적 행동과 사회적 상호작용에 맞춰져 있다. 저서로 Art and Artifact in Laboratory Science(1985), Scientific Practice and Ordinary Action: Ethnomethodology and Social Studies of Science(1993, 국역: 『과학적 실천과 일상적 행위』), Truth Machine: The Contentious History of DNA Fingerprinting(2008, 공저) 등이 있고, 2002년부터 2012년까지 학술지 Social Studies of Science의 편집인을 지냈다.
