영국 다람대학교에서 중동 기독교도들의 정치적 동일성에 관한 사회인류학적 연구로 박사학위를 받았으며, 현재 부경대학교 일어일문학부 교수로 재직 중이다. 학술활동으로 학술지 “Mediterranean Review” 창간이래 편집위원을 수행하고 있으며, 한국생태환경과 역사학회 부회장을 맡고 있다. 최근 저서로는 “Memories of the WWI and Interpretations of Japanese Activities in the Mediterranean and Asia” (2019), “Payinga Visit to the Memorials of the Japanese War Dead in Malta” (2019), “The Memory of Sayfo and Its Relation to the Identity of Contemporary Assyrian/Aramean Christians in Syria” (2018) 등이 있다.
