경기대학교 미디어영상학과 교수이다. 영국 카디프대학교와 미국 인디애나 대학교에서 석사학위를 받았으며 인디애나대학교에서 박사학위를 받았다. 1997년부터 문화일보에서 사회부, 산업부, 국제부, 경제부 기자로 일했다. 저서로는 『유곽의 역사』(2007)와 『포르노그래피의 이해』(2015)가 있다. 논문으로는 “Do Cultural Values Matter? A Cross-Cultural Study of the Third-Person Effect and Support for the Regulation of Violent Video Games”(Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology; 2015),“Determinants of sports coverage: Newsworthiness in US media coverage of foreign athletes during the London 2012 Olympic Games”(Journalism, 2020) 등이 있다.
