서울대학교 사범대학 및 대학원에서 윤리교육을 전공하였다. Fulbright Graduate Student Fellowship의 수혜를 받고 미국 UCLA에서 국제비교교육과 시민교육을 전공하여 철학박사 학위를 취득하였다. 2014년부터 서울대학교 사범대학 윤리교육과에서 교수로 재직하고 있다. 주요 논문으로 “글로벌 역량 교육의 핵심 학습요소와 영역에 대한 질적 메타분석,” “고교유형별 청소년 사회참여역량의 차이,” “Immigration status and adolescents’voting intention in 17 European countries: The importance of immigrant integration policy context,” “Immigrant integration policy and native adolescents’attitudes towards ethnic minorities: A comparative study of European countries,”“A Cross-national examination of political trust in adolescence: The effects of adolescents’ educational expectations and country’s democratic governance,” “Global convergence or national identity making? The history textbook controversy in South Korea, 2004-2018” 등이 있으며 2018년부터 현재까지 “고교유형이 학생의 시민역량에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구,”“국가의 이주민 통합 정책이 이주배경 청소년의 사회경제적, 정치적 통합 및 자국 청소년의 종족적 소수자와 국가 기관에 대한 태도에 미치는 영향,” “이주배경 청소년의 정치 사회화에 대한 연구”등의 한국연구재단의 연구를 수행하고 있다.
