Brewer는 Wake Forest University에서 강의하고 있으며 이전에는 Miami University의 회계학과 교수로 재직했었다. Penn State University에서 학사학위, University of Virginia에서 석사학위, 그리고 University of Tennessee에서 박사학위를 취득하였다. Management Accounting Research, Journal of Information System, Cost Management, Strategic Finance, Journal of Accountancy, Issues in Accounting Education과 Journal of Business Logistics 등의 저널에 40편의 논문을 게재하였다.
Brewer 교수는 Issues of Accounting Education과 Journal of Accounting Education의 편집위원이기도 하다. 그의 논문인 “Putting Strategy into the Balanced Scorecard”는 2003년 International Federation of Accountants’s Article로 선정되었으며, “Using Six Sigma to Improve the Finance Function”과 “Lean Accounting: What’s It All About?”은 2005년과 2006년에 IMA?(Institute of Management Accountants)의 Lybrand 금메달과 은메달을 수상하였다. 또한 Miami University의 Richard T. Farmer경영대학에서 최고의 강의상을 수상하기도 했다.
Miami University에 재직하기 전에는 Touche Ross에서 감사를 했었고, Presbyterian Church의 내부감사로 일하기도 했다.
