현재 하버드대학교 인류학과 교수로 재직 중이며, 같은 대학의 한국학연구소 소장을 맡고 있다. 주요 연구 분야는 의사소통과 사회문화적 기호화 과정이다. 주요 저서로 Songs of Seoul: An Ethnography of Voice and Voicing in Christian South Korea(2014)와 Glossolalia and the Problem of Language(2021)가 있다.
