연세대학교 건축공학과 교수다. 연세대학교에서 도시공학 석사, 워싱턴주립대학교에서 도시설계 및 계획학 박사학위를 취득했다. 도시환경과 인간 행태와의 연관성에 대한 다수의 논문을 발표했으며, 최근에는 도시설계 차원에서의 환경설계를 통한 범죄 예방에 대한 연구를 활발히 진행하고 있다. CPTED 관련 주요 연구로는 “Do all commercial land uses deteriorate neighborhood safety?: Examining the relationship between commercial land-use mix and residential burglary”(2016), “Residential crimes and neighbourhood built environment: Assessing the effectiveness of crime prevention through environmental design”(2016) 등이 있다.
