프린스턴 신학교에서 25년간 구약을 가르쳤고 여성 최초로 학장을 역임했으며, 현재는 유니언 장로교 신학교 211년 역사상 최초의 여성 총장이자 구약학 교수다. 또한 미국 장로교회(PCUSA)의 장로이다. 그녀는 문학 이론, 윤리학, 신학적 인류학, 젠더 이론 등 다양한 분야에 관심을 두고 있다.

저서로는 이 책을 비롯하여 Can These Bones Live?: The Problem of the Moral Self in the Book of Ezekiel (Walter de Gruyter), Bible and Ethics in the Christian Life: A New Conversation (공저, Fortress)이 있다.

공동 편집자로 참여한 책으로는 A Dictionary of Scripture and Ethics, The Old Testament and Ethics: A Book-by-Book Survey (이상 Baker Academic), After Exegesis: Feminist Biblical Theology (Baylor University Press), Character Ethics and the Old Testament: Moral Dimensions of Scripture (Westminster John Knox Press) 등이 있다. 또한 Women’s Bible Commentary는 3판에서 편집자로 참여했다(우리말로는 2판이 『여성들을 위한 성서주석』으로 번역되어 있다).
