He received Ph.D. from Tokyo Kyoiku University (1975) Exchange professor of Ryukyu National University (Okinawa) (1982-1983) by the Fellowship Japan Foundation. Exchange professor of Folklore Department, Indiana University, U.S.A. (1986-1987) by the Fellowship Fulbright. A Type Index of Korean folktales (1979, first published). In order to attempt these comparative studies, first of all, folktales of our own nation were collected as many as possible, and should be arranged and classified according to the standard type. this book is written to attempt for the attainment of the comparative studies.
