은퇴한 조선 기사이자 제인스 인포메이션 그룹(Jane’s Information Group)의 편집자이다. 그의 저서로, 『제인의 20세기 전함(Jane’s Battleships of the 20th Century)』, 『제인의 제2차 세계대전 해전사(Jane’s Naval History of World War Two)』, 『범선시대의 해전(Warfare in the Age of Sail)』, 『1914~1945 해전(War at Sea 1914-45)』, 『서구의 해군(Navies of the West)』, 『대서양 전투(The Battle of the Atlantic)』, 『세계의 전투함: 주력 함정(Warships of the World: Major Classes)』, 『지중해의 선박과 해전사(History of Ships and War in the Mediterranean)』 등이 있다. 그는 결혼하여 영국 햄프셔에서 살고 있다.
