Lawrence D. Burns

제너럴모터스(General Motors, GM) 연구 개발 및 전략 기획 부문 부사장을 역임하며 GM의 첨단 기술, 혁신 프로그램, 기업 전략을 총괄했다. 미시간대학교 공학 교수였으며 컬럼비아대학교에서 진행한 ‘지속가능한 모빌리티 프로젝트’를 이끈 바 있다. 30년 넘게 GM에 몸담으면서 커넥티드 카를 비롯해 연료전지, 바이오 연료 등을 기반으로 하는 대체 추진 시스템을 사용한 자동차, 자율주행 전기 콘셉트 카 개발 등의 프로젝트를 맡으며 GM의 기술 혁신을 주도했다. 2011년부터 구글 웨이모(Waymo, 前 구글 자율주행 자동차 프로젝트)의 자문 위원으로 활동하고 있다. 미국 국립 공학 아카데미(National Academy of Engineering)의 회원이다.
