프랑스 부르고뉴대학교에서 철학과 신학을 전공했다. 투르대학교에서 성서 주해 연구로 철학 박사학위를 받았다. 파리의 국립고등광산학교 교수였으며 현재는 파리정치연구대학교 교수로 있다. 저술로 Science in Action(1987), The Pasteurization of France(1988), We Have Never Been Modern(1993), Aramis, or the Love of Technology(1996), Pandora’s Hope(1999), Politics of Nature(2004), Reassembling the Social(2005), The Making of Law(2010) 등이 있다.
