대중심리서의 천국인 미국, 아마존에서는 한 달에 1,000종 안팎으로 심리 분야 신간이 출간된다. 이렇듯 사회심리학 등 20세기 이후 현대 심리학의 근거지는 미국이라고 해도 과언이 아니다. 때문에 학문적으로 명망 높은 심리학자 외에도 미국에는 대중들의 심리를 파고드는 연구자들이 많은데, 대표적인 인물이 바로 이번에 대표작 《마음가면》을 출간한 브레네 브라운이다.
