도나 타트의 데뷔작입니다. 타트는 찰스 디킨스의 마술 같은 재능을 물려받아 21세기 영미문학계에 혜성같이 등장한 명작가라고 생각합니다. 시작부터 결말까지 책을 내려놓을 수가 없을 정도로 흥미롭고 놀라운 반전으로 가득합니다. 줄거리, 캐릭터, 구성 모두 탁월하지만 영문학을 좋아하는 사람이라면 반드시 원서로 읽어보아야 하는 현대 고전 중 하나라고 생각합니다. |
최근에 읽은 책 중 가장 재미있게 읽은 책. 너무 재밌어서 꽤 두꺼운데도 불구하고 하루만에 쉬지않고 다 읽었다. 도저히 책을 내려놓을 수가 없었음.... 너무 내 취향이었다 진짜 강추Beauty is terror. Whatever we call beautiful, we quiver before it. Does such a thing as 'the fatal flaw,' that showy dark crack running down the middle of a life, exist outside literature? I used to think it didn't. Now I think it does. And I think that mine is this: a morbid longing for the picturesque at all costs. Beauty is rarely soft or consolatory. Quite the contrary. Genuine beauty is always quite alarming. |
