| I've read in Korean edition. But I could not grasp many details or sometimes main points which seem to be very important. But after I read the English edition, I was awared that the translation was not perfect, sometimes hardly represents the real view of the great author, Mortimer J. Adler. If you desire to make it a habit to read efficiently in a way that the author is pointing out, the English Edition is a must. It has the real philosophy of the author. Traslated edition has lost its value. Also, if you would like to improve your efficiency in English, especially in reading and writing, it will do what you want it to. While reading, not awaring the process of improving, your language structure in English will soon form with a fantastic stability. -Great Value by Great author who has Great insight- |

Published in 1940. It is the best and most successful guide to reading comprehension for the general reader. And now it has been completely rewritten and updated.
You are told about the various levels of reading and how to achieve them -- from elementary reading, through systematic skimming and inspectional reading, to speed reading, you learn how to pigeonhole a book, X-ray it, extract the author's message, criticize. You are taught the different reading techniques for reading practical books, imaginative literature, plays, poetry, history, science and mathematics, philosophy and social science. Finally, the authors offer a recommended reading list and supply reading tests whereby you can measure your own progress in reading skills, comprehension and speed.
Reading the Korean edition, I planned to read the original. That's because of the rough translation. It is not that hard for the intermediate reader to read. It's taken only 5 days to finish the reading. Now I get to be really wondering what made the Korean edition so unreadable. Moreover, why the publisher couldn't make this great book so secret like this. |
