영어영문학과를 졸업해서 쭈욱 영어를 밑천으로 월급쟁이로 살아가고 있다.

회사일에 집안일에 애들 뒤치닥 거리에 어느 순간 편한책(소설류들..특히)만

겨우 쬐끔 읽고 있다. 그래서 올해는 영어책을 일부러 열심히 사서 읽고 있다.

이 책에는 내가 잘 모르는 미국 사람들(나름 유명인사들 일텐데..)이 많이 있어서

어떤 분들은 인터넷에서 자세한 자료를 찾아보기도 했다.

개인적으로 제일 맘에 드는 글은 스티븐 코비 아저씨꺼다. 두 아이의 엄마로서 비록 종교는 다르지만, 엄마의 좋은 격려와 기도가 아이들을 올바르게 성장하는 밑거름이 된다는 부분 정말 확 와닿았다. 세상에서 제일 어려운 일은 아이를 키우는 거다. 요즘은 가끔씩 자고 있는 아이들 머리맡에서 코비 아저씨네 엄마처럼 나도 아이들에게 좋은 affirmation을 주고 있다.

한 명 더 맘에 들었던 분은 의사선생님의 글이었는데(이름 까먹음..) 단순 기계적인 의사가 아닌 죽음에 대해서 새롭게 정의하며, 환자와 고통을 같이 나누며 마음으로 치료하는 심의 이야기도 참 좋았다.

이 책은 다 보았지만, 아침마다 화장실에서 1~2페이지씩은 소리내서 읽고 있다. 좀 어려운 부분은 자꾸 읽다보면 정말 절로 뜻이 헤아려진다. 그 감동도 눈으로 읽는 것보다 훨씬 크다.

나도 죽기 전에 한국판 You've got to read this book에 좋은 글을 쓸 수 있도록 열심히 살아야겠다!

This book gives you a nice opportunity to listen to many well-known contempary people who were able to get over their own obstacles in life inspired by the books they recommended in their articles.

It helped me think more about the importance of meditation, thanks-giving, forgiving, and perseverance.

When I read what Rafe Esquith wrote, I were in tears. As a teacher to someone, I think Rafe surely understood more about being THE teacher than I did. It was really touching. As a result, I bought 'to kill a mocking bird'. And I cannot wait till I write the review of the book.

I also liked the writings of Gay Handricks, Pierce O'Donnell, and Lou Holtz. I used some of the stories from them during Sunday services in my church.

The writing of Rudy Ruettiger was also thrilling.

Yet, the best story in this book is from Danny Edward Scott Caslenuovo's. I cried and cried after reading Danny's real-life story. It was not because Danny's personal life was sorrowful. Rather, I felt that someone inside me (I think it is Jesus Christ, my Lord) was tellig me that Danny's story about helping others especially when you are desperately in need is the story that God wants me to live in this life. Love others as God loves me.

If you have not read this book, I recommend reading. Just one thing. Avoid the Korean translation. If you want to grasp the real thing, read the English version.

짧막한 이야기들로 구성된 이책은 영어 원서 중에서도 아주 읽기 쉬운 편에 속한다. 모두 실제 경험을 이야기한 내용이므로 감동적인 부분도 많다.

그러나 지나치게 기독교 서적을 읽고 인생이 바뀐 이찌보면 비슷비슷한 유형이 많이 나와서 중간 이후에는 지루해졌었다. 그러다 기독교와 관련 없는 내용이 나오면 조금 나아지곤 했다.

인생을 바꾼 책을 이야기할때 짧은 두세장으로 얼마나 깉은 내용을 담을 수 있을까. 하지만 누군가의 인생에 깊은 영향을 끼친 책들이므로 분명 읽으면서 나도 이책은 꼭 읽어보고 싶다 라고 느끼게 되는 것들이 있을 것이다.

종교가 없는 나로써는 거의 80 프로 정도 기독교 책에 관한 반복되는 내용때문에 중간 점수 밖에 주지 못했다.

Even though you've got effected by any circumstances, it would be really difficult for you to make it change your life. Without practice, any kind of people, words, or books cannot influence your life. If you just pass them over without trial to apply them directly into your life, they would have no more meanings. I've got found commons among authors of this book, which is the practice that I told.

After feeling their mind moved by reading a book, they didn't hesitate to apply the principle into life. Most of them succeeded in achieving something valuable with this kind of action. Maybe what is the most important thing would be laid in yourself, not anywhere in book, movie or other people, because the most important one is yourself who will make movement in the life, and change the world.  

외서를 직수입한 거라 우리말 설명이 없는 것이 당연하건만.. 그래도 수입대행하는 곳에서 작은 정성 보여주었으면 좋았을 것을...

저명인사들이 쓴 수필(?) 같은 건데 그 저명인사들이 어떤 사람들인지 조금 더 알았더라면 하는 생각도 들고, 사진 한장 있음 좋겠다는 생각도 들고..

ㅎㅎ

암튼 매일 한 편씩 읽어볼 생각으로 샀지만.. 흑...

아직 익숙치 않아서 3일에 하나 정도 읽고 있다.

그래서 감동보다는 조금 어질~

자주 외서를 접한 사람이라면 감동도 빨리 느낄 것 같다.

워낙 광고를 많이 했던 책이다.

그래서 꼭 한번 읽어봐야지 하다가..

마침 영어공부를 하고 있던 시기였기에..

원서로 샀다.

짧막 잛막해서 하루 하루 나워서 공부하기에 좋은 거 같다.

하지만 번역이 되지 않는 부분은 그냥 넘어갈 수 없어 

한국어 번역본을 도서관에서 읽어보고

내가 번역한 부분과 비교해보기도 한다.
