Finally I turned the last page of 'the Witch of Portobello'. Feelings? Variably mixed, but the most honest feeling I can confess is 'my stupidity'. I could follow the exterior, physical narration of the characters, but couldn't understand the true message that the author might try to convey through Athena. 'The deity inside women' many reviews talked about was never what I found while reading it nor interested me a bit. I prefer normal people and everyday struggles of them.
One thing I could remember among what Athena said is "Love simply is. Love cannot be defined. Just love."
"There is only one difference between teacher and disciple: the former is slightly less afraid than the latter. Then, when they sit down at a table or in front of a fire to talk, the more experienced person might say: 'Why don't you do that?' But he or she never says: 'Go there and you'll arrive where I did,' because every path and every destination are unique to the individual. The true teacher gives the disciple the courage to throw his or her world off balance, even though the disciple is afraid of things already encountered and more afraid still of what might be around the next corner." said Edda. I liked it.
I would not feel bad for my not being able to understand the (mignt-be-)intended message by the great author Paulo Coellro, because like Edda said, every path and every destination are unique to the individual. My destination of this journey -Reading is a journey, I believe.- is not what I'm proud of but that is simply what I am. And I should LOVE myself. |
