I didn't expect this book, The Boy Next Door, to be hilarious even if some reviewers told me it was, but what they said was DEFINITELY true^^ I heard from someone that it was written in a new style: it was filled with E-mails, not the typical explanations, descriptions, or dialogues between characters. That made me a little bit worried because I have not been able to be accustomed to reading something unnatural (at least) to me, I mean, which is not written in a traditional way. Even I can't endure something written in a first person's view. For instance, I have not got a glimpse of the famous ones by Gabaldon due to that frivolous reason. (I do know it's ridiculous, but I can't help it) Anyway, I HAD TO pick it up, for a sort of curiosity stirred in me; "Is it possible for this author to convey her intentions exactly to readers using E-mails?" or "Can I find it amusing?" As I read this book, I thought this creative style worked well. In this book, you can completely see what kind of persons the main characters are, how the story goes and so on. Besides it was not monotonous. While I was reading lots of E-mails in it, I could feel the characters were so vivid that they were the real persons to me. In particular the SITUATIONS the male character named John Trent was faced with made me laugh. He pretended to be another, Max Friedlander, who was the true nephew of the old lady in coma. He didn't want to be, but he had to because Max kept him from marrying a show girl in Las Vegas 10 years ago. He must pay off his debt at this time. Consequently, he had a trouble dealing with his work or Max's. Also he felt awfully sorry for lying to the heroine: Melissa Fuller. He was personally interested in her, but he couldn't tell her the truth..... Poor John~ How could he overcome the difficulty and win Mel's heart? If you want to know the result, please try this book. You won't regret to read it. I'm sure of that ^^
