How many people in the world could answer, if they were asked where Botswana was on the Earth? Providing there are some, how many of them can point out the country in a map with his or her finger, though? Botswana, that was the country name that I have never heard before. So naturally it tickled my curiosity, along with the book title, 'The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency'.

In the beginning of the story, I was told by the lady detective, Mma Ramotswe that the Botswanians are peace-loving, stable and humble people. And I sensed that Mma Ramotswe are (I use the present tense, because I want to believe she is still driving her tiny white van in Gaborone, trying to figure out who did what and why.) very bright, positive, honest, and courageous plump lady, and she proved me right throughtout the whole incidents. 

I would not say this is a hugely interesting detective story, but it truely is a very good strory, small-scaled but deeply touching. You would find yourself gradually getting more attracted in her stories. 

Mma Ramotswe faced down fraudsters, coped with jealous wives, stood up to Mr.Power, and confronted dangerous people. And her adventures kept unfolding, making me smile and amused.

Alexander McCall Smith, the author of this cute detective novel, wrote five more books of this curious and adventurous fat lady. I admire him, his creativity and his love of Africa and its people.
