Though this book is quite outdated in terms of its contents, the author nontheless portrays an evolutionary perspective on the origin of intelligence. And he does it quite convincingly, despite the fact most of his resources and references are outdated by more than three decades.

You can actually have a good laugh when he mentions Pong in the book as an example of high tech computer application. Maybe in the 70's but not nowadays. But he has enough insight to hint at what is to become: a very possible human evolution in which technology transcends biology. His ideas are similar to Ray Kurzweil's, or maybe his ideas were the founding blocks of Ray Kurzweil's optimistic book, "Singularity is Near."

You'll also learn a whole lot on many ways evolution shaped our intelligence. And the book is quite short and easy to read. So give it a try if you are wondering how dragons, sleep pattern and the lack of missing link in human evolution are related.
