처음 접한 주디무디 책이다. 개인적으로 그렇게 흥미롭지는 않았지만 대단히 교육적인 책이라고 생각한다. 환경문제에 빠져 든 주디무디를 통해 이 책에서 우리는 재활용 가능한 물품과 멸종위기에 처한 동식물에 대한 단어를 많이 접할 수 있다. 읽고 토론하는 데 써도 손색없다고 생각한다.
활자체가 큼직큼직해서 마음에 드나 챕터북 치고 긴편이어서 긴 호흡이 요구된다.
단어 수준 ch. 1 -She lifted out the tiny hammer for testing reflexes. - Cass-o-wary. I learned it in Science. It's a rainforest bird that can't fly, so it kicks its enemies. 조류: 화식조 - I told you I'd put your arm in a sling if you didn't stop stealing my stuff. - Be outrageous! chap. 2 - That's called composting. - Don't be litterbugs. - Sometimes Jessica Fink Finch gave her the jitterbugs. - Bats aren't half as crazy as banana peels. - Mouse has banana smoosh on her whiskers.
chap 3 - coffee grounds 커피 찌꺼기 - paper muffin holders - Garbologist to you. - apple core - "Here," said Stink, sticking something wet and mushy under Judy's nose. - You could use it for kindling, to start a fire! - Judy trudged upstairs, feeling like a sloth without a tree. - She clomped(=clumped) downstairs in a mad-at-your-whole-family mood.
chap 4 -At school, Judy wiggled all during Maths in the morning. She squirmed through Spelling. - Shenandoah salamander! Monkeyface mussel! Leatherback sea turtle! 장수거북 - shiny pigtoe - North-east beach tiger beetle! An icketty-cricketty old creepy-crawly. - "The best exhibit there is cobwebs," Rocky said. - She showed them a real live Shenandoah salamander, a Virginia fringed mountain snail that looked extremely sluggy, and a stuffed flying squirrel glued to a board. - She raised her hand, holding it as straight as a shortnose sturgeon. 철갑상어 - Those are endangered in Virginia and that would be a good specimen for our collection. - "An isopod 갑각류 is a crustacean (갑각류의 동물) like a sow bug(쥐며느리)," answered Stephanie. "Think of it like a pill bug(쥐며느리), or a woodlouse.(쥐며느리) You'll find those in Arachnid(거미류의 동물..거미,전갈,진드기 등) Hall." "Ick! A louse(이) is lice!" said Rocky. - After all, they had a bunch of creepy crustaceans, licey isopods and pill-buggy pests. - Tropical treehoppers(뿔매미)? Nocturnal aye-ayes(다람쥐원숭이)? - The whole class got to touch an orange-foot pimpleback pearlymussel shell and hear a story about a Dismal Swamp shrew(shrewmouse 뾰족뒤쥐).
chap 5 - And there's a dung beetle,(쇠똥구리) a Hercules beetle(남미산 큰딱정벌레) and a spotted water beetle(수서 곤충, 물방개 등). Even an elderberry (말오줌나무 열매) longhorn beetle. - Endangered by changes in habitat, human population, shoreline development and erosion. - My beetle's a beach bum!
chap 6 - Judy had ants in her pants all through Spelling. - hornbill 코뿔새
chap 7 - How about luna-tic," said Stink. - "Stink, you will have to be the gofer." - A gopher(뒤쥐 ; 땅다람쥐(북미산)) sounds like a rat. - lentils 렌즈콩 - lima beans - “STINK!" Judy wailed. - "Take a good look at this smile," said Judy, baring her teeth Siberian tiger-style.
chap 8 - One crummy certificate? - Did they have bats in their belfries? - Don't they know bats have beady little eyes and squished-up noses like pigs? - a lifetime's supply! - Her very own batty little brother was now as famous as Josephine Dickson, Inventor of the Adhesive Bandage.
chap 9 - She did nothing but chew her Grouchy pencil all through Spelling. - I want everybody to sit still for sixty seconds. I'll time you. - Ninety-eight percent of the cedar wood(삼나무 목재) used for pencils comes from rainforest trees. - The whole class was in an uproar. - A bottle drive sounds like a fine idea. - The third graders spent the afternoon rounding up milk jugs from all over the school. - She, Judy Monarch Moody, knew just how a butterfly felt coming out of the chrysalis.
chap 10 Batty for Bottles - They raided Rocky's garage first and found two milk crates full of bottles that bad not been recycled. - At Judy's her mother let her have the stash of milk jugs she was saving to make bird feeders. - All the next week Class 3T piled up a mountain of bottles in the multi-purpose room.
chap 11 - A Mexican jumping bean [멕시코산 등대풀의 씨 (속에 든 벌레 때문에 씨가 춤추듯이 움직임)]could have done a better job of sitting still. - “And now," came Ms Tuxedo's voice over the PA system. (public-adress system) - Lunch today is Sloppy Joes,(여성용 헐렁한 스웨터?)" Ms Tuxedo continued. - And will Judy Moody please report to the front office - The third grade papier-mache masks outside the classroom seemed to wink at her. |
