A popular classic masterpiece, Animal Farm, is.a great book which allows people to think deeply about the danger of dictatorship and consequences of apathy on how a government operates.

Coming to know some of my friends read this, I decided to buy Animal Farm and read it.

Summary)

In the beginning, Old Major, the most regarded boar, communicates his strange dream to other animals and spreads the song named Beasts of England to rid Manor Farm, whose owner is Mr. Jones, of all humans. It means he ignited the flame of rebellion for independence from human beings. After the realisation of it, pigs considered the cleverest creatures including Snowball and Napoleon become the virtual leaders and decides everything in spite of an open meeting on Sundays. Snowball and Napoleon are in disagreement on every discussion and so are they when Napoleon strongly objects to Snowball's policy in building a windmill. As soon as the majority of them agrees to Snowball, Napoleon makes Snowball run away with his well-trained attack dogs. Then he abolishes the Sunday meeting and says all decisions would be settled by a special committee full of pigs. No one protests because other animals find no right arguments to say. As time passes by, working animals start to work longer but get less rations. After the carnage of traitors, they come to think this is not what they hopes and why they toils. Pigs now wear clothes, walk on two legs, sleep in beds, and take more privilege on every side, which are against the first 7 Commandments of Animal Farm.

I discovered that this book is closely connected to Russian Revolution and the Soviet's Union. Old Major is a pioneer in Animalism like Lenin who led the establishment of the Soviet Union.

It satirises the Russian Revolution starting with a good cause for equal and just society came to a corrupt society led by dictatorial power. The last sentence keeps ringing my head: 'The animals looked from the pigs to the men, and from the men to the pigs again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.'

The Soviet government executes opponents with NKVD secret police(four dogs in Animal Farm), and Stalin(Napoleon) steals Trotsky(Snoball)'s idea of the Five Year Plan(windmill) while expelling him. This provides us with the parallels between power struggles and betrayal of Animal Farm and reality.

Also, although some animals were aware of contradictions of Napoleon government, no one truly protested and spoke up, which means there was no change.

To conclude, this book serves as a reminder of the dangers of  corruption of leadership and apathy on how things actually unfolds.
