모스크바국립대학교에서 수학을 전공하였으며 현재 Independent University of Moscow의 교수로 있다. 10여권의 책을 러시아어로 저술하였으며, 다음 저서들이 AMS(American Mathematical Society)에서 번역되어 출판되었다. 『Elements of Homology Theory』, 『Elements of Combinatorial and Differential Topology』, 『Geometry』(공저), 『Essays on Numbers and Figures』, 『Elliptic Functions and Elliptic Integrals』(공저), 『Knots, Links, Braids and 3-Manifolds』(공저), 『Intuitive Topology』, 『Problems and Theorems in Linear Algebra』.
