대구 출생으로 경북대 사범대학 영어교육과를 졸업하고 동 대학원 영어영문학과 문학석사 학위를 받았다. 이후 고려대학교 대학원 무역학과를 졸업(경영학석사/박사)하고 무역회사 근무했다. 서울시립대학교 경상대 학장 및 경영대학원 원장을 역임하고 동 경상대학 무역학과/경영학부 교수를 지냈다. 현 서울시립대학교 명예교수이다.
