코링턴은 미국 뉴잉글랜드 초월주의의 흐름을 잇는 미국 자연주의 전통의 학자로서 자신의 철학을 탈자적 자연주의(ecstatic naturalism)로 규정한다.
코링턴은 미국 드류대학교를 졸업하고, 펜실베니아 주립대학교 교수 등을 거쳐 현재 미국 드류대학교 철학적 신학/종교철학 교수로 재직 중이다. 본 역서 『자연주의적 성서해석학과 기호학』 (The Community of Interpreters: On the Hermeneutics of Nature and the Bible in the American Philosophical Tradition, 1987)을 필두로, Deep Pantheism: Toward A New Transcendentalism(Lexington Book, 2015), Ecstatic Naturalism: Signs of the World(1994), Nature and Spirit: An Essay in Ecstatic Naturalism(1992), Nature’s Sublime: An Essay in Aesthetic Naturalism(Lexington Book, 2013) 등 다수의 저서를 출판하면서 활동해 오고 있다. 특별히 2000년에 출판된 A Semiotic Theory of Theology and Philosophy (Cambridge Univ. Press, 2000)는 장왕식ㆍ박일준 역, 『신학과 기호학』 (이문출판사, 2007)으로 번역출판된 바 있다.
