The Graduate Faculty of Political and Social Science at New School University의 심리학 교수, 같은 대학에서 임상 심리학 감독관을 역임하였다. 또한 베스 이스라엘 의학 센터의 상급 연구자였다. 뉴욕 대학 박사 후 프로그램에서 정신분석 수련을 마쳤고, International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotheraphy의 이사가 되었다. 그는 선불교와 티베트 불교를 오랫동안 공부하였으며, 1984년부터 카르마 틴레이 린포체와 함께 공부하였다. 저서로는 『Negotiating the Therapeutic Alliance: A Relational Treatment Guide』(Christopher Muran과 공저), 『Emotion in Psychotherapy』(Leslie Greenberg와 공저), 『Interpersonal Process in Cognitive Therapy』(Zindel Segal과 공저)가 있다.
