Joshua Van Lieu is a historian of early modern and modern East Asian politics, thought, and critical international relations. He received his doctoral degree from the University of Washington in the histories of Chos?n Korea and Late Imperial China. He has published on nineteenth-century Qing-Chos?n tribute politics, the historiography of reform movements in late Chos?n Korea, the political roles of the Chos?n state Guanti cult, and on critical approaches to historical international relations. He is currently an associate professor in the Department of History at Keimyung University.
