Lee Gi-dae is a Professor of Korean Studies at the Division of Global Studies at Korea University. He authored several books and articles, including Myeongseonghwanghu pyeonjigeul (Letters from Empress Myeongseong), 19 segi joseon-ui soseolga-wa hanmun jangpyeon soseol (Sinographic Novels and Novelists of the 19th-Century Joseon), Nangdok-ui tansaeng (The Birth of Reading), and “Hangeul pyeonji-e natanan sunwonwanghu-ui suryeomcheongjeong-gwa jeongchijeok jihyang” (Queen Sunwon's Regency and Political Orientation through Her Hangul Letters).
