호주 국립대학교에서 박사학위를, 오슬로 대학교에서 철학 박사학위를 취득한 인도학 및 의학사 분야의 세계적인 권위자이다. 현재 코펜하겐 대학교의 인도학 및 인도 과학 명예교수이며, 코펜하겐 대학교 ‘인도 과학 연구 센터(Centre for the Study of Indian Science)’의 설립자이기도 하다. 지스크는 고대 인도의 과학과 의학의 역사에 관해 Religious Medicine: History and Evolution of Indian Medicine, Medicine in the Veda: Religious Healing in the Veda, “The evolution of anatomical knowledge in ancient India, with special reference to cross-cultural influences” 등 다수의 저서와 논문을 발표했다.
