Unit Structure:

1. Warm up: Each unit begins with a flexible warm-up intended to engage students with the topic and subject matter in an interesting way, allowing teachers to adapt it to their style.

2. Vocabulary: Following the warm-up is a list of key, topic-oriented words for students to learn. Most of the introduced vocabulary will be used throughout the entire unit, facilitating the teacher’s guidance in helping students learn and apply these words promptly.

3. Grammar Focus: Key grammar points are explained in this section using models, charts, and example sentences. The grammar is introduced with continuity and sequential learning in mind, acting as a springboard to prepare students for subsequent grammar points.

4. Pattern Practice: After the Grammar Focus, Pattern Practice exercises provide students with speaking and writing exercises related to the just-introduced grammar points. Exercises range from dialogue drills and ordering to fill-in-the-blank and matching.

5. Dialogue (Listening and Speaking): Students study a real-world dialogue by listening to the companion audio file, filling in the blanks with missing words. Following the listening segment, they practice reading and speaking the completed script in pairs.

6. Reading: Each unit includes a reading comprehension text with a companion audio file. Students read the text and answer comprehension questions. The audio file can be used at any time to help students with pronunciation.

7. Conversation Practice: In this section, students ask and answer topic-oriented questions, allowing flexibility for short answer dialogues or extending the conversation into free-talking sessions.

8. Editing: Each unit concludes with an ‘Editing’ section where students will demonstrate their mastery of the language targets. In these exercises, students are challenged to identify errors in a given exercise and correct them. The ‘Editing’ exercises are designed to sharpen students’ language skills by engaging them in the critical process of identifying and rectifying errors, fostering a deeper understanding of the language principles introduced throughout the unit.

Review Units: Units 6 and 12 of Campus English 101 depart from the outlined structure, primarily consisting of exercises based on what students have learned up to that point. Review Units aim to prepare students for exams and provide teachers with an opportunity to check and gauge students’ progress. Unit 6 reviews the content of Units 1 through 5, while Unit 12 reviews the content of Units 7-11.

Workbook: At the end of this textbook, you will find a supplementary workbook designed to provide students with additional exercises and practice opportunities. This workbook is intended to reinforce the concepts introduced in each unit, offering extra challenges and activities to enhance language proficiency. It serves as a valuable resource for both self-study and classroom use, allowing students to further consolidate their learning through diverse exercises that complement the material covered in the main textbook. Teachers can use the workbook to assign extra practice or as a tool for assessing and reinforcing the students’ grasp of the language targets presented in Campus English 101.
