Arthur Kornberg

1918년 미국 뉴욕에서 태어나 뉴욕 시티 칼리지와 로체스터 대학교에서 화학과 생물학을 공부했습니다. 디옥시리보핵산(DNA)을 복제하는 데 작용하는 효소의 역할을 발견한 공로로 1959년에 노벨 생리의학상을 수상했습니다. 같은 해에 미국 스탠퍼드 대학교 의과대학에 생화학과를 처음으로 만들었습니다. 『노벨상 수상자가 들려주는 미생물 이야기』외에도 수많은 교과서들과 『효소 사랑 : 한 생화학자의 오디세이』, 『황금 나선 : 생물 공학의 모험 속으로』와 같은 자서전들을 썼습니다. 오랫동안 열정적으로 학생들을 가르치다가 2007년 10월에 세상을 떠났습니다.
