Roses are blooming outside our windows today.
One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon-instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today. ---p.18 When you have a lemon, make a lemonade. If the fool finds that life has handed him a lemon, he gives up and says, “I’m beaten. It is fate. I haven’t got a chance.” Then he proceeds to rail against the world and indulge in an orgy of self- pity. But when the wise man is handed a lemon, he says: “What lesson can I learn from this misfortune? How can I improve my situation? How can I turn this lemon into a lemonade?” ---p.62 We always think of what we lack. As Schopenhauer said: “We seldom think of what we have but always of what we lack.” Yes, the tendency to “seldom think of what we have but always of what we lack” is the greatest tragedy on earth. It has probably caused more misery than all the wars and diseases in history. ---p.104 Do first things first. I know from long experience that one is not always able to do things in the order of their importance, but I also know that some kind of plan to do first things first is infinitely better than extemporizing as you go along.

『How to Stop Worrying and Start Living은 출간된 지 수십 년이 지났음에도 지금까지 전 세계 독자들에게 꾸준히 읽히는 대표적인 베스트셀러다. Roses are blooming outside our windows today. One of the most tragic things I know about human nature is that all of us tend to put off living. We are all dreaming of some magical rose garden over the horizon-instead of enjoying the roses that are blooming outside our windows today. |
