For thirty years the members of the Jacksonville Museum Quilters group created and worked from the second-floor front room of the historic United States Hotel in Jacksonville, Oregon. In 2012 they suddenly were faced with the need for a new place to continue their work and to store fabric, files, and books of quilt patterns. There was also a need to find a home for a dozen commemorative quilts they had created but were not suited for daily use. An agreement was reached with the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society, and a quilt storage area and display space were incorporated into the renovation work being done on the RVGS building.
This book was prepared so that the commemorative quilts and other local historic quilts subsequently added to the collection might be shared even when they could not be displayed publicly. It is dedicated to the talented members of the Jacksonville Museum Quilters who preserved the tradition of quilt making while remembering local historical events. And to the unknown blanket makers whose work we admire and collect.
