RONIN Parts 4-6 continues the arc of the Conquerors of K'Tara Ronin short-stories as Ronin and Julia travel aboard the Galactic toward K'Tara, a distant world where General Genghis's followers hope to abandon their synthetic or semi-synthetic bodies and begin new lives as fullhumans. What begins as a dream of freedom, renewal, and love for our two heroes is slowly becoming a journey marked by fear, moral uncertainty, and growing suspicion about the true nature of the mission.In Part 4, Julia witnesses Colonel Retch brutally crush a Keplerian resistance using horrific new weapons, shattering her faith in General Genghis's promises of peaceful coexistence on K'Tara. Back aboard the Galactic, she and Ronin struggle to reconcile their hopes with the violence they have seen. Julia also faces prejudice and harassment from fullsynth soldiers who view her, a fullhuman, as inferior and an object to be played with. Ronin begins to question whether the mission he believed in may be built on deception. What awaits them around the corner reveals the reality of the threat.In Part 5, the aftermath of an assault by three fullsynth soldiers deepens Julia's trauma and exposes Ronin's differences following medical treatments that dull emotional pain in Upsiders. Their relationship strains under the weight of fear, alienation, and cultural difference. Ronin confides in Dovard, who shares his suspicion that Genghis has not told the crew the full truth. When the ship's AI forbids discussion of Earth's lack of news from Genghis, those suspicions intensify. Later, the same thugs trap Ronin and Julia in a forced virtual experience, but Ronin finally turns the tables on them, frees Julia, and rushes off to confront the soldiers.In Part 6, some time has passed, and Julia has begun to heal through psychoremodeling treatments. As the Galactic nears K'Tara, hope briefly returns. Julia and Ronin discuss the ethical and practical consequences of "transbodiment," the process by which enhanced humans intend to take organic bodies, and Julia raises doubts about whether transferring a brain into a new body preserves the same person. Julia also begins forming a friendship with Ru3.46, an android whose curiosity, depth, and individuality challenge her assumptions about Synthetics and personhood. Just as Julia starts to feel that life aboard the ship may finally be improving, the Galactic enters an unstable region of space. Alarms blare and the ship, along with everyone and everything in it are rocked by life-threatening space-time distortions. Ronin and Julia's hearts sink when their friend Dovard shouts for help.
