Five weeks. One rocket. Three girls who can barely agree on anything.
Eleven-year-old Journee has opened the second envelope in Granny Glo's Dream Book. Inside is one unfinished dream:
See a rocket go up. In person. Feel it.
When Mr. Ruiz announces the Rec Center Rocket League, Journee believes she has found the perfect path to completing Granny Glo's dream. She will build a rocket, enter the competition, and make it all the way to a real launch at NASA's Wallops Flight Facility.
There is just one problem: teams are assigned by lottery.
Journee lands with Bree, her organized best friend, and Skylar, the polished rival who arrives with exact measurements, color-coded plans, and an opinion about everything. Bree tries to keep the peace while negotiating her share of a rocket that makes no money, and Journee's little brother, Miles, keeps asking whether it is supposed to lean like that.
As the countdown gets shorter, Journee becomes convinced that Granny Glo's dream will only count if she does the work herself. The more she takes over, the further the team falls behind-and soon their rocket, their friendships, and Journee's chance to witness a real launch are all in danger.
To get this dream off the ground, Journee must face a challenge no tool or checklist can solve: asking for help.
Warm, funny, and full of heart, Granny Glo's Countdown is a contemporary middle-grade story about Black family legacy, friendship, STEM discovery, self-confidence, and learning that accepting help does not make a dream any less your own.
