Unfaithful Constellations
Eva Voss and Tomas Halvorsen built their marriage on precision. Instruments calibrated to the smallest fraction of error, on data that either held or didn't. Their divorce, six months old and still unfinished on paper, has none of that clarity.
A contract clause forces them back together at a remote mountain observatory for one final joint observation: a stellar conjunction so rare that neither of them will ever see another like it. Four days, one aging telescope, and a storm system closing in from the west should be manageable. But when Eva discovers a calculation buried in their old data, she realizes Tomas knew about an error and never told her, quietly absorbing the correction into the paper that helped build both their careers.
As the observation window narrows, old wounds surface. Rumors about their divorce are already spreading through the department. A prestigious job offer threatens to pull Eva away from the consortium. Their young colleague, Marcus, finds himself caught between two brilliant scientists who can barely stand to be in the same room.
Then, on the one clear night the weather allows, something unexpected happens between Eva and Tomas, a brief return to the intimacy they thought they had buried.
When the conjunction finally arrives, Eva discovers Tomas is altering the incoming data, attempting to control the record of their final observation. With only minutes to act, she must decide how far she's willing to go to protect six years of shared work, and whether saving the truth means finally walking away from the man she once built her life beside.
Unfaithful Constellations is a story about marriage, ambition, authorship, betrayal, and the complicated things people leave behind when something they built together can no longer belong to both of them.
