Can a vibrating platform quieten my legs?
Movement relieves restless legs, and a vibration platform is marketed as passive movement. Anyone too exhausted for an evening walk rightly asks whether the machine at the gym might help. This volume states the number that appears on no brochure: eleven people worldwide have been studied on one.
The far better known vibration trial, moreover, is about an entirely different device, namely the vibrating pad. Platform and pad are constantly muddled, and that is exactly why one appears in a guideline and the other does not. The finding that belief in the pad outweighed the pad itself is set out here too.
The volume also places the other devices - cuff, infrared, cold, foot pressure - and explains why stimulation at the fibula, of all things, has the best evidence behind it.
WHAT IS IN THE BOOK- What happens in the body when you stand on a vibrating platform- Platform or pad: which device is actually being talked about- What risks vibration treatment carries and when it must not be used- What happened to eleven people on a vibration platform- What the vibrating pad produced in one hundred and fifty-eight people- Why an improvement of ten points proves nothing here- What the very first controlled study of 1984 said about vibration- Cuff, infrared, cold, foot pressure and stimulation at the fibula
WHO THIS BOOK IS FORFor patients being recommended or sold a vibration device, for anyone about to buy one, and for everyone who wants to weigh up the manufacturers' promises.
