Two-node clustering is available in Windows 2000 (and later versions) Advanced Server, and four-node clustering is supported in the Datacenter Server edition. Each server in a Windows cluster can use different hardware, but for optimal performance, I recommend that the servers be as close to identical as possible. All of the servers in a cluster are physically connected to the same external drive storage.
