This book mainly deals with transformational rules, which were explored and discussed mainly in the 1970s. Since the 1980s, transformational rules have rarely been discussed at linguistic forums. Instead, a variety of theories have attempted to analyze the same phenomena/facts from different perspectives. This change was motivated by linguistic theoretical purposes, but not by pedagogical purposes. In terms of teaching/learning of languages, many of current linguistic theories have little use. Among linguistic theories in terms of rules, the traditional transformation grammar is the best for pedagogical purposes.
