If you’ve watched the video for Psy’s new jam “Hangover” ? released on his YouTube page Monday - and are wondering about a few things, you’re probably not alone. The video is full of the zaniness that the viral Korean rapper is known for.

It’s also filled with references about Korea and its unique drinking culture.
또 한국과 한국의 독특한 음주 문화에 대한 내용으로 가득하다.

Korea is a heavy-drinking nation, recording the highest per capita alcohol consumption rate in Asia, according to the World Health Organization. The tendency has historically lead to large spending on medicines to cure alcohol-related illnesses.
세계보건기구에 따르면 한국은 아시아에서 가장 높은 음주 소비율을 지닌 술을 많이 마시는 나라이다. 이런 경향은 음주와 관련된 병을 치료하는 약에 많은 돈을 쓰게 한다.

Those familiar with the country will be nodding their heads at the references to the culture in Psy’s video. For everyone else here's a breakdown of the drunken melange.

UN Copyright Body Recognizes Korean as Official Language
유엔 저작권기구는 한국어를 공식언어로 인정

Korean has joined the ranks of 10 official languages of international patent applications. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) added Korean and Portuguese to the other eight official languages on Sept. 27. It is the first time that Korean has gained official status at the U.N. copyright agency.
한글은 국제 특허 출원을 할 수 있는 10개 공식언어에 합류했다. 9월 27일 세계 지적재산권기구(WIPO)는 한국어와 포르투갈어를 기존 8개 공식 출원 언어에 추가했다. 한국어가 유엔 저작권기구에서 공식 지위를 획득하게 된 것은 이번이 처음이다.

This is good news for Koreans, especially as they mark the 561st anniversary of the proclamation of hangeul, the Korean alphabetical system, Tuesday. The Korean language is a very effective tool to introduce our culture to people around the world. South Korea is the world’s 13th-largest economy. It is the world's fourth-largest country in terms of international patent applications, following Japan, the United States and China.
