한양대학교 비교역사문화연구소 HK교수로 재직 중이다. 과학사·과학사회학을 전공했고, 최근에는 인문·사회과학 지식에 관한 역사·사회학적 분석, 발전과 발전주의에 관한 비판적 연구 등을 과학사·과학사회학 연구와 연결시키는 데 관심을 두고 있다. 대표논저로 Dreamscapes of Modernity: Sociotechnical Imaginaries and the Fabrication of Power(공편), “The Politics of Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research in South Korea: Contesting National Sociotechnical Imaginaries”, “Science and Technology: National Identity, Self-Reliance, Technocracy, and Biopolitics”, “Science, Technology, and the Imaginaries of Development in South Korea” 등이 있다.
